Market-driven product and service design: Bridging the gap between customer needs, quality management, and customer satisfaction

2000

Bridging the gap between a firm's internal quality improvements and external measures of customer needs and satisfaction is an important yet complex translation process. The process has traditionally been studied within two very different domains. An external focus on customers has been the domain of marketers. Manufacturing and engineering-based approaches to quality management and improvement have traditionally taken a more internal, process improvement focus. Both areas have recognized the need to broaden thier focus and bridge the gap between internal quality and external customers needs and satisfaction. This paper offers a framework to integrate these two domains. A case study is pres…

The Contribution of TQM to Organizational Ambidexterity: The State of the Art and Promising Research Streams

2015

The purpose of this chapter is to present the state of the art of research on the impact of TQM implementation on organizational ambidexterity. The widespread diffusion of TQM in organizations in all sectors and the already established importance of ambidextrous capability for achieving long-term competitiveness make understanding the connection between both fields a worthwhile objective. We underline the need to include in the analysis the broad and complex nature of TQM. Due to the interactions between its principles and practices, total quality management can act as a platform in creating an ambidextrous organizational context. We also underline the importance of clarity in research on t…

Application of the discussion groups and initial phases of the qfd methodology to the study of Valencian ball trinquetes

2011

Montaner AM, Montaner C, Perez-Soriano P, Carrasco-Embuena V, Llana-Belloch S. Application of the discussion groups and initial phases of the qfd methodology to the study of valencian ball trinquetes. J. Hum. Sport Exerc. Vol. 6, No. 4, pp. 629-638, 2011. The purpose of this research is to show an opinion study about the specifications that the valencian ball trinquetes should have according to the players’ opinion. The valencian ball game is a native sport with a great cultural tradition in the Valencian Community and it has been practised in the trinquetes since the XIV century. Despite its history, these facilities do not have the normative requirements for suitable sport development. Th…

Analysis of User Needs for the Redesign of a Postural Seat System

2009

The identification and translation of customer needs early in the design process is a major challenge for product design researchers. Some needs are explicit and customers can state them very clearly. Other needs are implicit, so customers cannot express them, e.g., those pertaining to the affective and emotional sphere. In this work, we describe the methods most commonly used to capture explicit and emotional customer needs, and the traditional ways in which they are used. Moreover, an integration of QFD and Kansei engineering, a simplification of Kano methodology, and a new attribute weighing methodology based on the “choice time” are discussed for the design of an innovative postural sea…

A weighted logistic regression for conjoint analysis and Kansei engineering

2007

Customer needs for emotional satisfaction are increasingly being considered by product and service designers. While several existing methods such as conjoint analysis (CA), Kano model and quality function deployment support the translation of customer requirements into technical specifications, researchers are now working to develop methods aimed at integrating affective aspects into product design. Kansei engineering (KE) is a design philosophy that considers customer perceptions and emotions by adopting a multi-disciplinary approach. CA is a useful tool within a KE project. This article presents a methodology for conducting a KE project in early development phases. This methodology is bas…

An Integrative Approach for Product Development and Customer Satisfaction Measurement

1999

As soon as the automotive industry in the western world countries recognizes that the outstanding performance of Japanese manufacturers is the result of a customer-oriented understanding of quality, the QFD approach became a famous instrument to achieve the product quality demanded by customers. Nevertheless this concept has its limits. In this article we suggest the extension of the QFD approach on the base of customer values and benefits.

Quantities, environmental footprints and beliefs associated with household food waste in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

2019

The objectives of this research were to identify the quantities and global warming, acidification and eutrophication potentials associated with household food waste in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In parallel, this study investigated perceptions related to food waste and using the quality function deployment for environment model, correlated reasons for discarding food waste and beliefs associated with food waste. Based on this study, it is estimated that around 2.8 kg of food waste is disposed of by the average household every week. Global warming, acidification and eutrophication potentials associated with household food waste are, on average, 3.49 kg CO2e/week, 2.42 g SO2e/week and 8.70 g PO…
